- A faithless elector in North Carolina, Lloyd W. Bailey, was pledged to Nixon but cast his vote for Wallace, giving Wallace 46 electoral votes to Nixon's 301.
- Nixon led the popular vote by about 0.7 points, one of the narrowest margins of the 20th century.
