Donald Trump (Republican) won the 2016 United States presidential election with 304 of 538 electoral votes, to Hillary Clinton's 227. 270 electoral votes were needed to win. Hillary Clinton won the national popular vote with 51.1% (65,853,514 votes) but lost in the Electoral College — one of the rare elections where the two diverged.

Notes on this election
- Trump won 304 electoral votes while losing the nationwide popular vote to Clinton by about 2.87 million votes.
- Seven electors defected, the most in a modern election: two Texas electors pledged to Trump voted for Ron Paul and John Kasich; four Washington electors pledged to Clinton voted for Colin Powell (3) and Faith Spotted Eagle (1); and one Hawaii elector voted for Bernie Sanders.
- Maine split its vote for the first time: Clinton won the state and the 1st district, Trump the 2nd district.
- Trump swept Nebraska and all three of its districts.
