Notes on this election
- Bush won the presidency with 271 electoral votes while losing the nationwide popular vote to Gore by about 544,000 votes.
- The outcome turned on Florida's 25 electoral votes, decided by 537 votes after a recount that the Supreme Court halted in Bush v. Gore.
- One of the District of Columbia's three electors, Barbara Lett-Simmons, cast a blank ballot in protest of DC's lack of congressional representation; that abstention is modelled here as a separate recipient so the units still total 538.
- Gore swept Maine and both of its districts; Bush swept Nebraska and all three of its districts.
