- Bush won a popular-vote majority (50.7%), the first for any candidate since 1988, with Ohio's 20 electoral votes deciding the outcome.
- An anonymous Minnesota elector cast a presidential vote for John Edwards — Kerry's running mate — apparently by mistake.
